Attachment Therapy

I utilize an attachment based framework and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) in my work with couples. This approach will support you and your partner in identifying the ineffective relationship patterns and cycles that you find yourselves in. Oftentimes, these are adaptations that developed during childhood when we were trying to communicate a basic need. Understanding how this plays out in your relationship can be valuable information. This can be utilized to develop the healthy and effective patterns of communication that you are your partner are seeking.

Areas covered in couples therapy

  • Communication issues

  • Conflict resolution

  • Interracial relationships

  • Emotional distance

  • Relational trauma

  • Trust issues

  • Unmet emotional needs

  • Life transitions

  • Co-dependency

  • Addiction

What couples therapy looks like

During the first few sessions we will identify how each partner’s family of origin history has influenced their attachment style. This information will then allow us to identify the attachment cycle you and your partner engage in. From there, we will create goals to work towards the desired and healthy relationship dynamics you are seeking. Through couples therapy you and your partner will learn to create the emotional safety needed to communicate your vulnerable feelings and needs. We will then collaborate on how these needs can be met within the relationship. My style is adaptive, and will be tailored to your preferred learning style. As requested, I provide worksheets, homework, and activities that can be practiced in session and utilized outside of session.
